Derrek & Tiffany: A Love Story at Villa Lena in tuscany

There is something about Tuscany that feels almost impossibly romantic. The rolling hills, centuries-old architecture, olive trees and that unmistakable golden Italian light. It's a place where time seems to move a little slower, where long afternoons turn into even longer evenings, and where gathering around a table is practically an art form.

Tucked away in the Italian countryside, approximately an hour from Florence, Villa Lena became the setting for Derek and Tiffany's destination wedding in Tuscany. A celebration that brought together their closest friends and family from around the world for an unforgettable Italian wedding experience.

Finding the Perfect Wedding Venue in Tuscany

When we first started planning Derek and Tiffany's wedding, Italy wasn't necessarily the destination. Based in the United States, the couple was open to exploring different countries and locations for their celebration.

Together, we considered several destinations before eventually finding ourselves drawn to Tuscany. After researching and carefully selecting a collection of beautiful Italian wedding venues, one place stood out: Villa Lena.

It wasn't simply the countryside setting or the beautiful architecture that caught our attention. It was the personality of the property. Creative, colorful, artistic and wonderfully different from the more traditional Tuscan villas.

With its charming courtyard, characterful buildings and accommodation spread across the estate, Villa Lena offered something particularly special: the opportunity to bring everyone together in one place.

For a destination wedding with guests travelling internationally, that sense of togetherness was just as important as the setting itself. Rather than everyone arriving for a single celebration, Derek and Tiffany could share an entire Italian wedding experience with the people they loved most.

An Italian Pizza Party to Welcome Everyone

And what better way to begin a wedding celebration in Italy than with a proper Italian pizza party?

The evening before the wedding was dedicated to everything we love about Italian hospitality. Freshly made pizzas, Italian music, relaxed conversations and the wonderful feeling of everyone finally being together.

It was intentionally informal, a chance for guests to settle into their surroundings, reconnect with familiar faces and embrace the slower rhythm of the Tuscan countryside.

No elaborate formalities. Just good food, good company and the anticipation of everything still to come.

Romantic Wedding Design with an Artistic Tuscan Twist

For the wedding day itself, our vision was to create something romantic, effortless and beautifully considered, but with a contemporary and unexpected twist.

Rather than introducing an entirely new aesthetic, we wanted the wedding design to feel like a natural extension of Villa Lena itself.

The property's colorful personality, architectural details and creative spirit became the starting point for the concept. We also drew inspiration from nearby Florence, a city where art, history and creativity have been intertwined for centuries.

The idea was to create a celebration that felt almost like a piece of living art. Romantic without being overly traditional, contemporary without losing its warmth, and full of thoughtful details that invited guests to look a little closer.

Colorful floral arrangements were combined with fresh fruits and vegetables, introducing unexpected textures, playful compositions and an almost sculptural quality to the tables.

These elements brought a contemporary, artistic dimension to the wedding styling while remaining connected to the natural abundance of the Italian countryside.

The contrast between the historic surroundings and the more unconventional design details was exactly what made the concept feel so special. Nothing needed to compete with the beauty of Tuscany. Instead, every element became part of the same story.

A Wedding Celebration in the Heart of the Tuscan Countryside

As the Tuscan light softened and the evening unfolded, the atmosphere shifted naturally from a romantic wedding celebration into a joyful gathering of friends and family.

The beautiful surroundings, the shared experience of travelling to Italy and the intimate atmosphere of Villa Lena made everything feel wonderfully connected.

What we loved most about Derek and Tiffany's wedding was how naturally the setting, the design and the people came together.

From the first conversations about where in the world to get married to discovering Villa Lena and developing the creative concept, every decision was guided by the same idea: creating an experience that felt personal, meaningful and unmistakably theirs.

Planned and creatively directed by Sand+Lace, Derek and Tiffany's Villa Lena wedding was a celebration of love, art, color and togetherness, set against the timeless beauty of Tuscany.

A little unconventional, wonderfully romantic and filled with everything that makes a destination wedding in Italy so special.
